Triathlete Technique Training in Winter

Happy New Year! We want to start off 2019 by bringing you an interview with Olympian Susan Williams on the importance of working on swim technique in the off-season. Susan is an elite coach at SwimLabs in Littleton, CO, and a triathlon coach at Endurance Multisport Coaching (Team EMC: www.teamemc.com). Susan competed in the second Olympic triathlon at the 2004 Olympic in Athens, and was the first U.S. triathlete to win an Olympic medal, taking the bronze. Susan also completed an IRONMAN in 2012, and has a Master’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering.

SwimLabs Team Nights

It’s the beginning of high school swim season and local teams hurry to schedule their Team Nights at SwimLabs Highlands Ranch.

“As a high school coach, I see a great value in the SwimLabs Team Night,” says Jenny Leddick, assistant Girls’ Swim coach at Rock Canyon High School. “The girls who go to our Team Nights have ‘Aha moments’ when they see a change that needs to happen in their stroke. With 80+ girls on our team I can’t always take the time to perfect each swimmer’s stroke, but when they come back from SwimLabs and tell me what they need to work on, it’s much easier for me to address it in practice.”

Case Study: Can Open Water Swimming Help Treat Depression?

A recent case study reported in the British Medical Journal and subsequently made into an episode of the BBC documentary series, “The Doctor Who Gave Up Drugs,” describes how a 24-year-old mother eliminated her medications for major depressive disorder and anxiety over a period of four months as she began a program of weekly swimming in cold water. But could cold water swimming really help treat depression?

SwimLabs' Mike Mann Breaks World Records!

August’s Missy Medal for Achievement went to SwimLabs co-founder Michael Mann for setting not one, not two, but three world records at the Masters’ Summer National Meet in Mission Viejo, California. Along with Colorado teammates Craig Petersen, Kirk Andersen, and Greg C. Scott, Michael set a new world record in the (combined ages) 240-279 400-meter Medley Relay. They beat the previous record by 4.53 seconds in a time of 4:32.15.
